Charlottetown, PE – Lyndale Royal has been established as the morning line favorite (5-2) in the Saturday night harness racing feature at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park. Post time is 6pm.
The six-year-old son of Force of Life is going for his fourth win in a row and eighth on the season when driver Walter Cheverie picks up the catch-drive from post 3 for trainer Brent Campbell and his co-owner Neal Moase, Cornwall. The pacer has been sharp posting trips in 1:56.4 and 1:55 flat.
The field is full of talent with strong opposition expected from Machinthesand for trainer Hughie Murphy, driver Ken Murphy and owners Noonan Holdings Ltd. This guy will have to maneuver from post seven but his last start shows a third placing finish tripping the timer in 1:54.3. The other triactor candidate is the veteran Balanchine, a winner of $776, 792, from the Jackie Matheson stable. The line up from the rail out also includes Likely To Win, who is riding a two race winning streak, Roscoes Child, Whosurwinner, My Lucky Killean and Narragansett.
The evening trot will be called to the starter in race 4 with a 6:51pm scheduled post time. Former Summerside track holder Holy Molie Maggie is the one to catch from post 4. Gary Chappell will handle the driving duties for owner-trainer Jeff Holmes, Orwell, PE. Pleasure Girls (Corey MacPherson), Caliban Hanover (Ron Gass) and Frill Seeker (Gordie Hennessey) are all capable of knocking off the favorite.
Walbert, owned by Ashley Gamester, Hunter River, is going for his third win in a row in the finale for Jason Hughes.
Athletic Putnam favored to win Labour Day Pace Monday
The Labour Day pace is ready to go on the holiday Monday at Red Shores Summerside. Post time is 1pm. The Prince County oval has 13 races on the program.
Athletic Putnam, co-owned by Donald Callbeck, Kensington and trainer Paul Biggar, Tyne Valley, is the favorite. Race analyst Jared Stretch is clearly on board. "He really showed his grit here last week coming from way back to grab that 4th," explained Stretch. "He's got an extra gear so when he kicks it in it may be lights out."
The power packed line-up has Eagle Jolt off the rail followed by Van Vant (Ron Matheson), American Captain (Mike Campbell), Tammysmist (Ken Murphy) and Blu Meadow Willie.
Money Show headlines the trot class in race 3 for driver Brian Andrew. The mare makes her 19th start this season from post 6. Galabraith, Pure At Heart, Hopedale Dora, Lets Trade Ladies and Majian Magic have also been entered for the event.
The Drive for Charity campaign kicks in to the last two months of the promotion when the action moves to Summerside. The on-track betting promotions such as Play 4, Super Pack, Pick 5 and the Wild Horses tag will also feature new prize draws.
