George R. Berlin of Canfield, Ohio has been appointed by the Honorable Governor John Kasich to the Ohio Standardbred Development Fund Committee. Berlin, as the newest member of the OSDF Committee, will serve a term of four years.
"I'm quite honored to be appointed to the OSDF Committee," Berlin stated. "I've been in this business for a long time and harness racing has been in my blood through five generations. I'm looking forward to help make a difference in Ohio's racing future."
Berlin has been active as an owner and breeder in northeastern Ohio for six decades, often racing under the nom de plume of G and B Racing (he and son Brad) or Acadia Farms Inc., (he and The Uncle Peter Syndicate).
His host of Ohio champions include Ohio Sires Stakes and Triple Crown trotting winners Contessa Leigh 3, 1:56.4F ($300,442) and Full Count 4, 1:55.4F ($238,692), as well as this season's standouts Dark Roast 3, 1:57.1h ($162,533) and Student Of Life 3, 1:56.4f ($213,073)-both sons of Full Count, who he owns in partnership with Anthony Minute and Jeffery Polichena and who stands at Marvin Raber's Baltic, Ohio breeding farm. Berlin also owns and breeds mares in partnership with Dr. Steiner of Steiner Stock Farm in Lima, Ohio.
His longtime Ohio-based trainer is this season's Kaltenbach winner Marty Wollam. Berlin also has Standardbreds in training with Grand Circuit conditioners Charlie Norris and Stephan Lind.
An entrepreneur whose professional endeavors include a robotics company and highway construction firm, Berlin also served as the Speed Superintendent for the Canfield Fair for more than 25 years.
