Don Sherman trainee wins first over

Deadhead Royalty (RC Royalty) scored a first over victory in Thursday's harness racing co-feature at Saratoga Casino and Raceway.

The four year old trotter was claimed during the meet's opening weekend by trainer Don Sherman and following a second place finish last week was the race's favorite in the $9,300 co-feature for New York Sired trotters.

Driver Billy Dobson moved first over with Deadhead Royalty approaching the half mile pole and wound battling throughout the race's final half with frontrunner The African (Jim Devaux).

Deadhead Royalty wound up prevailing by a head in 1:59.

The African held second while Dions Prayer (Phil Fluet) earned the show spot.

Deadhead Royalty is owned by Jessica Roegner of Wilton, NY.

Live racing continues on Friday night at Saratoga with a first post time set for 6:45pm.
