CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Mr Irresistible has been nothing short of perfect since moving to the East Coast but faces his toughest harness racing test to date Saturday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
First race post time is 6 P.M. for the 14-dash card.
The Jennifer Trainor trainee is shouldered with post 8 in the $2,400 race 14 finale with Jason (The Blue Knight) Hughes driving for owner Danny Birt of Stratford. The five-year-old son of Mister Big rides a three race win streak into the preferred event and faces off again with Adkins Hanover (Corey MacPherson), who also had some poor luck at the draw with post 7 after laying down torrid fractions in last week's show down. Race analyst Les MacIsaac sees the pair of pacers as the class of the field but sees post position as being a major factor.
"Mr Irresistible gets a much tougher post tonight and a full field so he'll have his
work cut out for him," MacIsaac said. "That being said, he's undefeated since relocating so it's hard to get off his bandwagon."
Other entries in the preferred pace include Twin B Shadow (Ken Murphy), Smiley Bayama (Ron Gass), Eagle Jolt (Marc Campbell), Pictonian Storm (Wade Sorrie), Simon Said (Adam Merner) and Starcastic (Ron Matheson).
The back-up pace lines up in race 9 for a $2,000 purse with Junebugs Baby dropping in class from the preferred rank and drawing post 2 for owner-trainer-driver Myles Heffernan. Other top entries include Instant Shadow (Hughes), who rides a two-race win streak, and Give Em Heck (Matheson).
The trotting ranks get started for the season in race 6 for a $1,550 pot. Holy Molie Maggie was razor sharp in her qualifier this week for driver Gary Chappell but gets saddled with the outside post 6. Jeff Holmes co-owns and trains for co-owner Trevor MacDonald of Vernon Bridge. Also in the field is Suicide Shift (Steven Shepherd), Neal (Brian Andrew), Parkhill Jugernaut (Ambyr Campbell), Zip The Lip (Brian MacPhee) and I Aint No Lady (MacPherson).
Red Shores' locations will also carry the famous Kentucky Derby from Churchill Downs in Louisville Kentucky. Customers who arrive at Red Shores Charlottetown between 5pm-6pm will receive a ballot for a chance to win tickets on the big race sponsored by the PEISHOA. Maybe Marketing and Brand manager Lee Drake will be supporting 20-1 shot Looking At Lee in the 2.4 Million race.
