YONKERS, NY, Saturday, November 3, 2018-Favored Mach it So (Joe Bongiorno, $4.30) finished what he started Saturday night (Nov. 3rd), winning Yonkers Raceway's $44,000 Open Handicap Pace.
Leaving from penultimate post position No. 5, Mach it So was stung by Techtor Hanover (Dan Dube), needing prompting to make the lead before a 27-second opening quarter-mile. He then rated a 29-second net substation (56-second half) before pole-assigned Control Tower (Austin Siegelman) moved first-up from third.
That one challenged in and out of a 1:24.1 three-quarters before backing away as Mach it So opened a length-and-three-quarter lead into the lane. He then held off Techtor Hanover by three-quarters of a length in 1:52.3. Voracity (George Brennan) was a second-over third, with a pylon-skimming Great Vintage (Mark MacDonald) and Pacing Major N (Jordan Stratton) picked off the remainder.
Control Tower was last among the half-dozen.
For Mach it So, a double-millionaire Mach Three gelding owned by Bamond Racing and trained by Jeff Bamond Jr., it was his eighth win in 26 seasonal starts (career 48-for-146). The exacta paid $18.20, the triple returned $91.50 and the superfecta paid $273.
A reminder that the Raceway offers a matinee Sunday (Nov. 4th), with a first post of 11:35 AM.
