SUMMERSIDE, PE – Using a three-wide brush to his full advantage, Nogreatmischief got up in the stretch drive to win the featured Sunday afternoon harness racing finale at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
In line to Walter Cheverie in the $2,700 featured event, Nogreatmischief got away fifth and watched as Heartland Eclipse (Driven by Mike McGuigan) laid down brisk opening splits of 28.1 and 57.1. Cheverie then elected to leave the rail up the backstretch and moved three high to position himself one-and-a-half lengths back at the head of the stretch before driving on for the neck win in 1:57.2. Jeb (Jason Hughes) finished second with Mantario (Norris Rogers) third. Cheverie co-owns and trains Nogreatmischief for co-owner Brian Thompson of Charlottetown.
The Elton Millar stable of Tyne Valley remained hot on the program as his trainees finished first and second in the $2,400 back-up pace. Twice As Bright (David Dowling) had a front end score in the event while stablemate Ramset (McGuigan) was second.
Driver Gilles Barrieau scored a driving triple on the card to give the Saint John, N.B., reinsman 10 wins on the weekend. Barrieau’s Sunday scores included Varadero Hanover (1:57.3) for trainer Jeff Wallace of Alberton, Southfield Sue (2:02.2) for Vance Cameron of Summerside and Rockyroad Slimjim (1:58.1) from the Robert Phillips stable of Summerside.
