Plymouth Chubb made it “11 straight wins on the trot” to win the $100,000 Group 1 Breeders Crown Final for the two-year-old trotting boys at Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday night.
He gave many onlookers a slight scare when he put in a side step 100m out from the finish line but it was not enough to stop the talented son of Majestic Son.
The Peter Manning-trained gelding did it tough outside the leader and rated 2:00.4.
When asked of the time his trotter ran, Manning stated: “That’s not working for him, that’s cruising!
“If he did everything right I was confident . . . he’s beaten all the other horses before.
“There aren’t many as good as him.
“I haven’t had one for a while that goes this good.
“He certainly makes getting up early easier in the morning.”
This gave Manning his 18th Group 1 winner and gave driver Kerryn Manning her 35th Group 1 success.
After beginning from barrier six, Kerryn let her drive settle at the back of the field before making a move to sit outside the leader Courage Stride.
The quarters were rolled through in 30.6, 31.6, 29.7 and 28.9 seconds and Plymouth Chubb showed explosive power to put more than 10m on his rivals to register his 11th win in 12 starts.
“Just as I went down to pull the plugs he went left and I thought oh oh,” said Kerryn.
“He was happy sitting outside the leader and relaxed and apart from the little scary moment up the straight, the race went to plan.
“He is a very special horse.
“It’s been a long time since he’s (Dad) had a good horse like this.”
