Talented trotter Plymouth Chubb ended his spectacular debutant season with a Group 1 win in the $100,000 Vicbred Super Series Final at Melton on Friday night.
It was a narrow victory for the shortest-priced favourite on the night but a short half-head was all the son of Majestic Son needed to extend his winning streak to 14 victories in 15 starts.
And this success is a story that writes itself.
His owners Gary Benson and Steven Hegyi, have been breeding from the same family line for more than 20 years and the persistency has paid off with Plymouth Chubb rounding out the season as Australiaās top two-year-old trotter.
āThe first trotter we brought was Kims Fantasy and this is the grandson of Kims Fantasy,ā said Benson.
āWeāve been breeding with this line for 20 years.
āTo get four Group 1ās for his first year and 14 straight, what more can you ask for?ā
Trained by successful horseman Peter Manning and driven by his daughter Kerryn Manning, Plymouth Chubb was forced to do it tough outside the leader and held off a late challenge by Courage Stride to claim the success in a mile rate of 1:59.9 for the 2240m.
āItās great to have a horse like this to drive and for the family to race,ā said Kerryn.
This gave Kerryn two Group 1 winners on the program after winning the Vicbred Super Series three-year-old trotting fillies final with Fancy for trainer Blake Fitzpatrick.
