Mister Macedon (Betterthancheddar) will chase a unique piece of harness racing history in the $10,000 Traralgon Pacing Cup at Warragul on Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 21).
The six-year-old gelding is seeking to become the first dual winner of the race, first staged as the Latrobe Valley Pacing Cup back in 1976.
Trained by Shane Hoban, Mister Macedon returned to racing with a solid second placing at Warragul last month, before a further placing at Bendigo and a last start win at Cranbourne.
With a concession claim for talented young driver Ewa Justice, and only six rivals, Mister Macedon looks well placed on Wednesday despite drawing outside the front row.
Chris Alford will be after an unprecedented seventh winning drive in the Pacing Cup.
He drove one winner of the race on the old Traralgon circuit, but has really made the race his own since it was resurrected at Warragul in 2006.
He drives Post Game for Jayne Davies, which is first up since August.
It is a small but select field for the Cup, which recognises the now closed Traralgon Harness Racing Club, which raced from 1975 to 1995 at the Glenview Park racecourse in the major city of the Latrobe City Shire.
Some former Traralgon stalwarts will attend the raceday, and a few photos and press clippings of the “good old days” will be on display in the dining room.
First of eight races on Wednesday is at 1pm.
