A return home results in victory

Six-year-old Art Major gelding Be Major Threat made a winning return to Tasmania when scoring in the THA Free For All in Hobart on Sunday night.

The Tammy Langley-trained pacer won in Hobart on 1 August before being undefeated in four metropolitan-level runs in Victoria.

On Sunday night, driver Conor Crook settled the $2.60 favourite one-out and three-back behind his main danger The Shallows, with Crook able to follow that pacer on the three-wide line for the final 850 metres.

The win was Crook’s first leg of a driving double, who scored later in the night on the Ben Yole-trained Aha Reaction, one of three wins for Yole on the card.

Langley also tasted success later in the night with $3.90 favourite Squatter Shannon, who was well handled in front by her son Dylan Ford, who also drove a double on the card.

The favourites dominated the two preludes of the two-year-old Tasmanian Sires’ Stakes series.

The Paul Ashwood-trained Baby You A Song ($1.35 fav) raced up to all the pre-race talk when she handled her rivals in the Prydes Easifeed Evicus Prelude with relative ease.

The daughter of Sweet Lou found the lead soon after the start and was untroubled to score by 12.3 metres over Miss Papenhuyzen in 2m 0.1s for the mile trip.

Mickey Oh ($1.16 fav) justified his short quote when scoring in the Prydes Easifeed Dandy Patch Prelude.

Driver Matthew Howlett settled the pacer one-out and two-back before working to the spot outside the leader near the mile mark.

The short price favourite swept to the lead with 400m to travel and went on to score 3.4 metres, with the earplugs still in, over Big Boy Mal in a mile rate of 2m 1.1s for the 2090-metre distance.

The $50,000 Group 2 Evicus and Dandy Patch Finals will be held in Hobart on 17 October.
