Riverina roadworks overseer and hobby breeder Bill Evans has had a strong association with the Village Jasper mare Ima Mystery Girl and her family for more than 30 years.
Evans bred her dam, Magic Ways, a winner of 10 races including three at Harold Park and later a very successful broodmare, producing five winners – four in 2:00 – from 10 foals.
Undoubtedly, the best of her progeny was Ima Mystery Girl, who won 16 races, $202,923 in stakes and reached open class.
Among her major successes were the Red Ochre Mares’ Classic, the Teeny Teeny Stakes and the West Wyalong and Tamworth Cups.
“We raced her and originally trained her then Jarrod Alchin had her for the rest of her career. She contested a couple of Ladyship Miles,” Bill said.
“She’s by far the best one we’ve ever bred.”
Ima Mystery Girl’s first foal, Iron Clad, was sold to Kevin and Kay Seymour for $40,000 at the Australian Pacing Gold Sydney sale in 2022.
The colt has won three races to date including the $50,000 APG Brisbane Gold Bullion and the Burwood Stud 2YO Classic for $82,501 in stakes.
Evans is offering her second foal as Lot 333 at the APG Sydney sale at Warwick Farm on Sunday, February 25.
He’s one of only two colts by the Bettor’s Delight double millionaire and USA Horse of the Year Tall Dark Stranger entered for the sale.
“He’s a long barrelled, nicely put together brown colt,” Evans said.
Wagga horseman Denis Howe, of Mataranka Park Standardbreds, is preparing the colt.
“Ima Mystery Girl has got a Sweet Lou colt on her now and she’s back in foal to Art Major, the sire of Iron Clad,” Evans stated.
