Star two year old filly Afternoon Breeze (Classic Connection) maintained her impeccable record when she led all he way to win the Nutrien Equine Classic Prelude for two year old fillies at Bendigo on Tuesday evening.

A hot favourite having been unbeaten in previous performances at Kilmore and Melton, Afternoon Breeze as expected took up the early running for driver Nathan Jack.
She appeared to be cruising in the lead and Hallebesofine’s driver Tina Ridis moved up to put some pressure on the leader. Jilliby Aura who had enjoyed a good trail looked poised to issue a challenge but at the critical moment she broke up losing all chance.
Although Afternoon Breeze never looked losing she had to fight off a spirited challenge from Hallebesofine who refused to give in and made a race of it down the home straight.
AFTERNOON BREEZE SEP 3 REPLAY
Afternoon Breeze prevailed to win just under two metres from a gallant Hallebesofine with Aldebaran Ada a further ten metres away third.
Afternoon Breeze is royally bred as her dam Onestar LB is a full sister to former Great Southern Star winner Callmethebreeze who was driven on that occasion by Nathan Jack so he is fully aware of the family’s trotting potential.
Afternoon Breeze is likely to start a warm favourite in the $75,000 Nutrien Final at Melton on September 13.
Hallebesofine is also likely to be contest the final and having finished second at her last three starts is bound to run another big race at Melton.
