Two ‘little brothers’ will be hoping to upstage their older sibling when they head to Tabcorp Park Menangle this afternoon (Oct. 3).
Jarrod Alchin stole the show on Saturday night with a winning harness racing double, thanks to Romanee and My Ultimate Ronnie.
Now his younger brothers Rickie and Alex will be hoping it’s their turn at ‘Headquarters’ today.
Rickie looks set for a big afternoon with several top chances, while Alex is also hoping he can upstage them with a winner or two as well.
Rickie’s best hope looks to be handy filly Sweet Hayley Jane in Race 6, a round two of the NSW Breeders Challenge for two-year-old fillies.
Alchin will rely on in-form young reinsman Will Rixon to get the job done this afternoon.
“While Ricky Hunt is our backbone and keeps us all on track, Will has really stepped up in recent times and is taking a more responsible role with the stable now,” Alchin told National Trotguide on-lines Mike Ko’cass.
“We’ve always had a bit of time for Sweet Hayley Jane.
“She just had a few chinks in her armour but, fingers crossed, we have ironed those out and she should be really hard to beat today.
“She’s a classy filly and if she puts her best foot forward she’s probably our best chance today.”
Rickie will take the reins on his stable’s other three major chances, King City in Race 2, Go Away Again in Race 3 and Harmony in Race 7.
“King City has the gate speed to get into a good position and is never too far away,” said Alchin.
“Actually, Jarrod’s mare Albizia will be really hard to beat but King City will certainly run an honest race.
“Go Away Again’s trials have been good leading into Race 3 today but my other brother Alex has one in the race which will be really hard to beat.
“Hopefully we can run him down late.”
Ricky will then be hoping for some success with Harmony later in the day:
“I have a lot of time for this horse. I got him off Jack Trainor and Jack told me that he liked him,” he said.
