Trainer Jarrod Alchin is confident stable harness racing star My Ultimate Ronnie (Bettor’s Delight) can take out one of his two feature race assignments in Perth, starting with the 4YO Classic (2130m) at Gloucester Park this Friday.
My Ultimate Ronnie arrived in Perth with fellow interstate thoroughbreds last Monday and made his way to Greg and Skye Bondās property.
The son of Bettors Delight got a chance to familiarise himself with the Gloucester Park circuit in a workout between races on Friday night.
Alchin said he was pleased My Ultimate Ronnie was able to get the chance to get a look at Gloucester Park prior to this weekās Group 2 event.
āEverything was perfect,ā Alchin told The Trots WA.
āWe werenāt out to break any records and he ran his last 400 in 26.9 in first gear.
āIt was more of a chance to take him there and get a look under lights.
āHe had a good blow after it because he had an easy week last week.ā
Fridayās $125,000 event will be My Ultimate Ronnieās first start since he took out the New South Wales Breeders Challenge (1609m) at Menangle last month.
Impressive 4YO Championship winner Star Casino, Tricky Miki, Youāre So Fine, Alcopony and Hoppys Way also line up in this week’s feature event.
Wonderful To Fly, who finished second to Simply Shaz in last Fridayās Mares Classic, is the only mare in the 4YO Classic.
Alchin said while he had full respect for the local pacers, he felt My Ultimate Ronnie would get the chance to prove he had a class edge on his rivals.
āSpeaking to a few of the guys here they said thereās no clear standout,ā he said.
āChatting to (Greg) Bondy, he doesnāt feel thereās much between the four-year-olds here either.
āThe barrier draws for both races will be crucial.
āHeās versatile because heās very fast out when required, but he doesnāt have to lead to win.
āHe will thrive off the run this week and be cherry ripe for the Nugget in two weeks.ā
My Ultimate Ronnie has been supported into $2.25 with TABtouch to win the Golden Nugget, ahead of Youāre So Fine and Tricky Miki at $8.
