A number of Sydney harness racing trainers are heading over the Blue Mountains to Bathurst on Wednesday night.

With heats of the Star Trek series the main lure, one horseman looking to secure a spot in the $14,994 final on January 19 is Alex Alchin.

Trainer Alex Alchin with his brother driver Jarrod Alchin.

The Menangle Park conditioner will produce Gimme A Reason in the first heat, race four.

The For A Reason gelding has won his two starts this preparation in slick times at Goulburn and Newcastle, respectively.

The four-year-old has only had four starts to date.

Alchin will also take former Victorian pacer Bankroll to Bathurst tonight.

Alchin prepares a small team of horses while also working as an equine dentist.

The younger brother of horsemen Jarrod and Rickie Alchin, the 28-year-old has trained 36 winners since the 2011/12 season.
