Few stables are going better than Menangle trainer Jarrod Alchin’s on the Sydney harness racing scene at the moment.
And for that reason, premier reinsman Cameron Hart will stick by him at Menangle tonight when Alchin hopes a couple of his ‘lesser lights’ can make their presence felt.
Hart is having a marvellous run as a freelance driver although its no coincidence that Alchin, along with Jason Grimson and Jack Trainor, use him as often as possible on their horses.
The young former Riverina reinsman will partner Justa Little Bit in Race 4 and outsider Sole Ambition in Race 6 at Menangle tonight on another strong book of drives.
Hart will also drive three favourites on the eight race card, Egodan (Race 1) and Stingray Tara (Race 5) for Grimson and has also picked up a handy drive on Ragnarr for Pete Russo in Race 8.
Yet it’s Tuesday night’s winners, My Ultimate Byron and My Ultimate Snowy, that have Alchin and Hart excited about their future prospects.
The pair landed a treble on Tuesday night with Madrid also scoring.
Alchin feels My Ultimate Snowy, a convincing winner of an APG Golf Bullion heat for two-year-olds in 1:54.2 could be on the verge of something special.
“I really like this bloke,” said Alchin.
“I think he has an x-factor about him and has the makings of a very nice type.
“He’s still got to live up to those expectations, but he gives the feeling he can go a long way.”
My Ultimate Byron also impressed, scoring in 1:51.6 in a heat for the three-year-olds.
“He showed he is back to his best with that run,” Alchin said.
“That said I haven’t been unhappy with his other runs.
“A few of those were over the longer trip and being back to a mile saw him in his element.”
“It was also his first run in six weeks, so he will be a lot better for it when the Final comes around in another 10 days,” Alchin said.
Also an APG Final winner last season, Madrid rounded out the treble when she led throughout in 1:54.5 to score from Smooth Bon Bon and Zenxena.
“She just doesn’t know how to put in a bad run,” Alchin said.
“Her last-start was a fourth in the Bathurst Bracelet after racing in the ‘death’ and it was the first time she hadn’t been in the top three.”
