While Jarrod Alchin’s name is missing from today’s Menangle race meeting the harness racing trainer is busy preparing a number of his three-year-olds including Madrid for the New South Wales Oaks.
The Bling It On filly made her debut for the new season at Menangle last Saturday night, finishing second in the J.L. Raith Memorial.
After not gaining a clear run until late, after racing behind the leader, Madrid was only beaten just over a metre by talented New Zealand filly Just Remember Me.
“Wrapt with her run first up without a trial, will benefit heaps from that,” said Alchin.
Madrid had not raced since winning the group 1 Breeders Challenge Final at Menangle in October.
Alchin will be at Menangle today at the trials, however, with six horses.
This includes his star two-year-olds last season My Ultimate Byron and My Ultimate Ronnie.
My Ultimate Byron will race in this Saturday night’s Group 2 Simpson Memorial at Menangle and has drawn barrier one in the $50,000 feature, taking on Smaltese who is also making his season debut.
Meanwhile, the winning driver of the Raith Memorial, Jack Trainor, has a busy day at Menangle today with seven horses nominated across the eight races.
Trainor will give NZ reinsman Carter Dalgety his first Australian drive in race five on Happy Publicans.
Carter’s father Cran trains Just Remember Me and Krug who also won at Menangle on Saturday night.
