Aldebaran Park, one of Victoria’s leading trotting nurseries, produced harness racing winners in three different countries in May.
Topping the bill was the three-year-old gelding Generally Speaking Swe (Readly Express), who posted his third win at only his third start in a $14,000 race in 1:57.8 at Oak Grove Raceway, Kentucky on May 13.
The first foal of the Australasian trotting mile record holder and 2018 Elitloppet runner Maori Time (1:51.1), Generally Speaking Swe was bred in Sweden by Aldebaran Park, who races the gelding with Melbourne enthusiasts Fred and Elizabeth Crews, Menhammar Stud, Sweden and American interests. He is trained in Kentucky by Jonas Czernyson and was driven by Kristin Shetler.
Maori Time, who has now arrived back in Victoria, and Aldebaran Bardot Swe (Charly Du Noyer Fra – Aldebaran Teal Swe) are both carrying positive tests to the 2021 Swedish Horse of the Year Calgary Games Swe, a multiple Group 1 winning son of Readly Express Swe. In addition to the mares, Maori Time’s third foal, a colt by Fourth Dimension, Just In Passing, is due to arrive in Victoria with the mares on June 28. They will then complete quarantine here in Melbourne before all arriving at Aldebaran Park in mid-July.
In New Zealand, Aldebaran Park’s resident sire Skyvalley NZ was represented by the winners Kimkar Dash (Auckland) and the three-year-old Timmy Turtle (Invercargill).
Skyvalley NZ, the premier colonial bred trotting sire for the past decade, led in six individual winners of eight races for the month. Flash Kyvalley, a winner in 1:56.8 at Menangle, Old Villa Boy (Ballarat and Hamilton), Rocky Valley and Myrtle Vale (both Cranbourne), Picket Wire (Shepparton) and the dual Gloucester Park winner Aldebaran Sundown were other recent winners sired by Skyvalley NZ.
Skyvalley NZ also ranks as the damsire of the dual Globe Derby Park victor Savvy Kyvalley, the Ballarat two-year-old winner I Am Hellbound and Silver Spoon (Shepparton).
Aldebaran Eagle USA, last year’s Australian 3YO Trotting Sire of the Year, continues to churn out winners. They include the two-year-old El Tornado, a winner of two of his three starts so far, the three-year-old Midnight Eagle (Bendigo and Ararat) and Dichotomy (Geelong).
Aldebaran Vera, the latest member of the $100,000 Club following her 1:59.3 triumph at Melton, headed up the list of Aldebaran Park bred and raised winners in May. Others were Sunsup (T 1:59.5), Aldebaran Sundown, Savvy Kyvalley and Generally Speaking Swe.
The frozen semen for Aldebaran Eagle USA will be available only in New Zealand next season. Bookings and further information from Andrew Fitzgerald on phone NZ 027 367 8264. Brochures and booking forms will be released in the coming months.
Aldebaran Eagle USA has sired four winners from only five foals in NZ to date.
