Homebred harness racing winners in both hemispheres, a host of winners for resident sires Skyvalley NZ and Aldebaran Eagle USA and the Victorian Hall of Fame award for Aldebaran Park principal Duncan McPherson OAM were the highlights of a busy month in August.
Generally Speaking Swe, a Swedish born three-year-old by Readly Express Swe from the Australasian trotting mile record holder Maori Time, earned a new speed badge of 1:54.6 when he chalked up his third success at The Red Mile, Kentucky.
The gelding was one of six winners bred or owned by Aldebaran Park for the month.
Other winners were Aldebaran Miley (Father Patrick USA-Mason Magic), who won her seventh race at Melton in 1:58.7, the Menangle winners Aldebaran Jensen 1:59.8 (Aldebaran Eagle USA – Endsino) and Aldebaran Belle NZ Tr 1:58.8 (Dream Vacation USA-Chiola Belle NZ), Hammer Son Tr 2.00 (Majestic Son Ca-Jingling Silver), a double winner off long handicap marks at Albion Park, and Aldebaran Brooke (Southwind Frank USA-Excellent Boko Swe), who notched her fourth success at Cranbourne.
Besides Aldebaran Jensen, Aldebaran Eagle USA was represented by the dual Melton winner Dichotomy (1:58.5 and 1:59.1), the unbeaten two-year-old Gatesy’s Gem 1:58.2 (Melton), and the three-year-old Midnight Eagle 1:58.4 (Bendigo and Maryborough).
Aldebaran Eagle USA has left 15 individual winners and $310,000 in progeny earnings to date this season.
Skyvalley NZ, who is again a Top Ten sire and the leading colonial bred stallion with season’s progeny earnings of almost $400,000, brought out winners in the two-year-old The Dark Thunder (Yarra Valley), the three-year-old Rocky Valley (Melton), Myrtle Vale (Bendigo), Minimez (Terang), My Bad Habits 1:59.3 (Port Pirie twice) and Sellune (Pinjarra).
Skyvalley NZ is also the damsire of recent Menangle winners Super Service (1:55.6) and Lar Dee’s Son, the dual Melton victor Im Bobby (1:55.8) and Fouroutoffive (1:59).
Duncan McPherson was recognised for his services to the industry as an innovative breeder, owner, studmaster and major benefactor and sponsor with induction into the Victorian Harness Racing Hall of Fame.
The frozen semen for Aldebaran Eagle USA will be available only in New Zealand in the upcoming 2024 season.
