Aldebaran Vera (Trixton) shed her bridesmaid tag in feature races when she ran her harness racing rivals off their legs in the Matchmaker Mile at Marlborough on Redwood Day.
The four-year-old daughter of Trixton worked to an early lead and was allowed to roll along at her leisure by Jason Lee during the middle stages before opening up a gap during the final 600 meters scoring by 16 meters from Ebony’s Avenger and Everybodylovesme in a mile rate of 1:56.5.
The Marg Lee trained mare finished second behind Just A Bit Touchy in the Breeders Crown (2YO Fillies) Final and was runner up to Ebonys Evenger in the Vicbred Super Series (2YO Trotting Fillies) Final
Lee said he decided to make an early move after Bitta Irish Luck pulled out.
“She was really good once she settled early was the key to her, I probably didn’t really want to go but once Herbie came around I made the call to go and just stay out of trouble,” Lee said.
“She was the best horse in the race and I just had to keep her out of trouble and once she got a little fired up I didn’t fight her and let her roll,” he said.
Lee said Aldebaran Vera has always been among the best of her age and sex.
“Her racing lately has awesome other than last start and she ran second in the Breeders Crown and the Vicbred Sires so she’s always had the ability, “he said.
