The Wayne Potter-trained The Locomotive (Muscle Mass) steamed to his third harness racing Group 1 at start nine with a dominant performance for driver Nathan Jack in the $100,000 Aldebaran Park Breeders Crown final for 2YO trotting colts and geldings.
He is out of champion racemare and producer, La Coocaracha, was able to find the front with a lap to go and despite facing a stern challenge from Triumph Stride applying pressure at his wheel, produced a dazzling trotting display to race clear of his rivals in the run home to the judge.
“He’s just a little natural, look at the breeding of his gait and everything – he’s got the world at his feet this one,” said driver Nathan Jack post race.
“He just does everything right and he makes my job easy, that’s for sure.”
The blue blooded squargaiter has been the dominant trotting juvenile colt for much of this season and tonight’s victory would have been a welcome tonic having galloped from behind the mobile in the G1 Redwood Classic three weeks earlier.
The winning time for The Locomotive was 2:48.7 with a last mile of 2:01.2.
THE LOCOMOTIVE REPLAY
It was The Locomotive’s fifth career victory from just eight starts and took his career earnings past the six-figure mark.
He was bred by Yabby Dam Farms and is raced by G B Holland with trainer, Wayne Potter also in the ownership.
