Emerging juvenile Sweet On Lexy (Sweet Lou) served notice he will be one of the major players in next weeks $500,000 Ladbrokes Protostar when he accounted for his harness racing rivals in the Group 2 Wayne Wilson Paleface Adios Classic at Albion Park.
Despite sitting parked outsideĀ Fate Awaits, Sweet On Lexy forged to the lead on straightening and managed to hold off the challengers to score by a head from the fast finishing Hesitate in a mile rate of 1:53.2.
Trainer driver Bernie Hewitt said Sweet On Lexy has always shown promise.
āHeās always shown plenty of ability and Iāve always loved him although heās had a few issues along the way,ā Hewitt said.
āHeās probably not the most tractable horse but heās got a big motor.Ā
Weāve addressed the issues that were worrying him and heās learning every time he goes around, he had a nice educational run last week and hit the line nicely,ā he said.
Hewitt believes the winner has untapped potential.
āHe tends to be able to run nice strong quarters and he can put them together which is the sign of a nice horse,ā he said.Ā
āHeās one of those horses that we donāt know how far heās going to go but at the moment heās doing everything weāve asked of him.ā
