Up and coming juvenile harness racing trotter Alrighty (Skyvalley) was really made to work when he took out the Haras Des Trotteurs Vicbred Platinum Homegrown Classic for 2YO Trotting colts and geldings at Melton last night.
Strongly backed into favouritism on the strength of his excellent Heat win at Melton last week Alrighty had an early tussle for the lead with Just As I Am. Kate Gath pressed for the lead but Nathan Jack on Just As I Am would not give away the front.
Just as he appeared to get to the lead, Alrighty broke up but did not appear to lose much ground as he settled behind Just As I Am.
Chris Alford made a daring move on King of Kvintet and he swept to the lead after a lap. The field stayed like that but when Just As I Am started to make a run Kate Gath on Alrighty switched to the inside and the big gelding stormed through record a comfortable win over Just As I Am who was not disgraced finishing second with King of Kvintet weakening for third.

Alrighty was bred and is raced by Bryan Healy of Maoriās Idol fame and Kate Gath drove in the famous green and yellow stars.
Kate Gath was pleased following the event.
āThey did everything they could to beat us. He was just too good. Full credit to him. He broke but got down quickly. I had to be aggressive to get him to trot again and pull him up. He had nothing going for him but was still too good for them. I thought he was the best horse in the race and he proved it. Weāre happy for Brian the owner and as you can see he has some filling out to do. Heās a bit immature but heāll get stronger over time.
Brian called us after he his first two races and asked us to take him. Heās very fast and works well at homeā.
āWeāll turn him out for a while and then bring him back for the three year old events.ā
Alrighty gives every impression of looking for more distance as he graduates through the grades next season.
