Tonight’s Queensland Derby winner American Dealer is off to Kevin Pizzuto’s stable in Sydney.
Pizzuto selected the son of American Ideal for owners Gordon Banks and Marc Hanover.
“I urged Gordon and Marc to buy the horse a year ago,” said Pizzuto.
“He stayed in New Zealand because there were some good races for him over there and nothing suitable for him here.
“He is booked to come to my place on Monday and he will go out for a spell.”
American Dealer has had a strong campaign in Queensland winning the Rising Sun Consolation, the Group 3 South East Derby and tonight’s Queensland Derby.
Trained by Ray Green, American Dealer was driven by in-form reinsman Anthony Butt to claim tonight’s $102,000 feature.
The three-year-old worked to the lead in the middle stages of the 2680m classic and remained there, clocking 1:55.9 to hold off Captain Crusader and Krug.
“It was a massive run, he had to sprint three times in the run and held them off,” said Butt.
“Full credit to Ray, he gives you full confidence with the way he prepares his horses for these big races.
“We’re here to race and I didn’t want to be unlucky and he was good enough to carry us through.”
American Dealer has won 10 of his 28 starts with a further nine placings to his credit.
