Around 10 years ago Andrew German was driving through Echuca and noticed a number of cars in the surrounds of Alabar Bloodstock.
Curiosity got the better of German who decided to see what was the source of the attraction.
āI was on the way home from visiting a mate in Barham and wondered what was the go with all the cars,ā German said.
āIt was an Alabar sale and the next think I knew I had bought a mare in foal which was no good,ā he said.
Fortunately, German was of the opinion that two mares are better than one.
āI thought she would need a mate in the paddock so I bought another mare in foal,ā he said.
The foal subsequently made the race track and under the moniker Brocks Territory proceeded to win 22 races including the 2017 Gunbower Pacing Cup for German, the owner.
Fast forward to the 2023 Gunbower Pacing Cup and German was again in the winnerās stall ā this time as a trainer and with Brocks Territoryās younger half-brother All Da Rage (Betterthancheddar) who was having its 50th race start.
Courtesy of a superb drive from Alex Ashwood, All Da Rage ($17) was able to ease into the clear from three back along the pegs and held off the sprint laning Kendys Butterfly by a neck with the $1.65 favorite Captain Pins two and a half metres away third.
Five years ago German purchased a property at Irymple in the Sunraysia.
āIt had a track so after hanging around with trainers over the years and telling them what to do as an owner I decided to get my trainers licence, which I got in March,ā he said.
German has a small team of two race horses and three yet to grace the race track.
āMy other horse at the races is My Ultimate Billy who has had a few issues but I reckon Iāve got him back on track,ā he said.
āAnd of the three jogging up a horse called Jimmys Territory is showing a bit of promise.ā
