Captaintreacherous gelding Bainbridge has taken advantage of a good draw to upset his harness racing rivals in the $100,000 Gold Chalice Final (Gr2) at Bathurst tonight (Mar. 25).
Trained and driven by James Rattray, Bainbridge secured a lovely run in the trail behind the hot favourite Better Be The Best for most of the 1730m trip, before using the inside run to his advantage and drawing clear to win by four metres.
Catalpa Rescue ran home well for second and Naturally Gifted was close up in third.
Bainbridge paced a 1:55.0 mile rate for the 1730m journey and took his earnings to over $60,000 with tonight’s win.
