As reported by Lucy MacDonald for ABC News, one of Tasmania’s largest harness racing operations has been charged with breaching its duty of care following a 2023 car crash, in which several people were seriously injured.

Five young people, who worked for Ben Yole Racing Pty Ltd, were driving back to Mr Yole’s stables in Sidmouth in January 2023 when their Ford Ranger, which was towing a horse float, crashed on the Batman Highway at Rowella, near Launceston.
The workers, who were aged between 14 and 20 at the time, had been working at a harness race meeting in Hobart, in the state’s south.
The crash happened about 1:45am, towards the end of the hours-long trip.
