The Woodlands Stud flagship Bettor’s Delight is the leading stakemoney harness racing sire in four different countries – Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada – for the fifth consecutive season.
The mighty son of Cam’s Card Shark headed the Australian sires list for a record eleventh season on end with progeny earnings of $13,424,115, more than $4 million ahead of her nearest rival Art Major.
Bettor’s Delight was also the leading overall sire of winners (404) and races won (1087) and the premier sire of three-year-olds. He topped the Australian broodmare sires’ list for the first time with his daughters producing the winners of a record $10,151,018, ending the five-year reign of Christian Cullen, who finished third in 2022.
The biggest contributors to Bettor’s Delight’s tally were triple derby winner Leap To Fame ($451,231), undefeated two-year-old filly Major Delight ($375,179), the NSW Oaks winner Just Hope ($261,467) and Beyond Delight ($190,739).
Bettor’s Delight made a clean sweep of the NZ sires’ premierships, capturing the siring awards for two-year-olds, three-year-olds, four-year-olds, five-year-olds and older and overall.
He was the leading all aged sire for the 11th time on end, surpassing Vance Hanover, who won the title 10 times between 1988 and 1997, due largely to the deeds of the Auckland Cup winner Self Assured ($912,975), dual derby winner Akuta ($454,550), Spankem ($298,175) and the crack three-year-old filly True Fantasy ($276,158).
Bettor’s Delight’s stock earned $6,790,120 in NZ in the closing season. He was also clearly the leading sire of winners (171) and races won (316) and finished runner-up to Christian Cullen on the broodmare sires’ list.
In North America, Bettor’s Delight won the sires’ premiership for the fifth season on end and the ninth time in the last 12 seasons. His progeny banked a hefty $23,952,839, the second highest amount ever behind his own record of $24.6 million in 2019.
Bettor’s Delight’s tally was more than $6 million ahead of Captaintreacherous, the premier sire of two-year-olds, Somebeachsomewhere and American Ideal, who outdistanced all other sires.
In all, Bettor’s Delight’s progeny has earned an incredible $500million worldwide to date.
