It has been a big week for one of Sydney’s leading stables Cobbitty Equine Farms on and off the track.
A big coup for the stable this week was the news of New Zealand pacer Duke Of Cornwall arriving shortly.
It was reported that the Sweet Lou colt was purchased for $500,000 and will be aimed at the upcoming New South Wales Derby.
On the track, trainer Belinda McCarthy won the Bendigo Cup with Spirit Of St Louis last Saturday night and has the pacer engaged in tonight’s $60,000 Shepparton Gold Cup in Victoria.
Spirit Of St Louis was driven by young reinsman Jack Callaghan in his recent success and the Cobbitty Equine Farms foreman will drive the gelding again tonight.
Meanwhile, at Menangle tonight, McCarthy has Ilikemebettor in the group 3 New Years Gift Final.
McCarthy’s husband, Luke McCarthy, the leading driver at that track last season, will drive the recent Menangle winner.
