Fairy Tinkabell raced her way into next week’s $200,000 Queen Elizabeth II Mile (Ladyship Mile) with a sub 1:50 performance at Menangle tonight.
The daughter of Big Jim rated a career best 1:49.9 to win the $50,000 Group 2 Robin Dundee Stakes.
Driver Luke McCarthy speared the six-year-old to the lead and with an early battle with New Zealand-owned mare Wainui Creek, sizzling through the first quarter in 26.2 seconds.
The tempo did not ease with the following quarters in 28.8, 27.2 and 27.7 seconds.
Wainui Creek held on for second with B K Swy a fast-finishing third.
That was Fairy Tinkabell’s 13th win in 40 starts.
“Full credit to the owners, they have been patient with this mare and given her a lot of time and it has paid off,” said McCarthy.
“With her gatespeed she will make a good race of it next week.
“I think Stylish Memphis is the best mare in the country but it all depends on how the race pans out.”
