Harness racing trainer Jason Grimson’s Miracle Mile hopes are still alive with his pacer Boncel Benjamin.
Following a below par performance in last week’s Newcastle Mile, Grimson was happy with his Inter Dominion-winning son of Grimfromeartoear in trackwork today.
“I gave him a hit-out this morning and he felt really sharp,” said Grimson.
Boncel Benjamin finished eighth in the Newcastle Mile last Friday after racing outside the leader and winner Mach Dan.
It was noted in the Harness Racing New South Wales Stewards’ reported that a post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to be mildly lame in the near side hind leg and it was stood down until the production of a veterinary certificate of clearance.
Boncel Benjamin has drawn barrier 12 (start from 10) in Saturday night’s $100,000 Group 1 Allied Express Sprint at Menangle where first and second receives an automatic invitation to the $1million Miracle Mile.
Boncel Benjamin opened at $9.50 with TAB Fixed Odds and is now $11.
His stablemate Cruz Bromac is in the same race and after opening at $15 has firmed into $6.50.
Cruz Bromac (Falcon Seelster) has drawn barrier three and is unbeaten in his two starts under Grimson’s care.
Grimson also has Majestic Cruiser (Art Major) in the other Miracle Mile qualifier, the Schweppes Sprint.
