Boom (Alta Christiano) maintained his perfect harness racing record at the Wagga circuit when he finished too strongly In taking out the $20,400 Yirribee Stud Wagga Pacers Cup at the Riverina Paceway on Saturday night.
The eight year old gelding New Zealand bred gelding started racing in Australia in May 2022 and although well travelled between Tasmania and New South Wales has found the Riverina paceway to his liking having now won his only four appearances there over the last three years.
In the Wagga Cup Boom was the widest runner on the second row and driver Taylah Osmond was able to sit mid field one out. Favourite the three year old Catchafire was able to hold the lead from the pole position for driver Jackson Painting.

Speculating drove up to take the sit behind the leader while Reset The Bar who was wide early worked up to race outside the leader. This gave Big Bad Ossie the one out and one back trail with veteran Carlo Gambino three back on the rails.
There was no change until well into the final lap. Big Bad Ossie issued what looked to be a winning challenge when he raced past Catchafire but out wide Boom and Captains Catch were fast making ground.
Boom’s finishing burst prevailed by just over a metre from Big Bad Ossie with Captains Catch another metre away.
BOOM APR 19 REPLAY WAGGA PACING CUP
Trained by former Tasmanian James Rattray, Boom has had 96 starts for 15 wins and 27 placings with his stake earnings in excess of $207,000.

Driver Taylah Osmond has an obvious affinity with Boom and she has shown that she understands Boom.
After the race she commented. “It was pretty exciting. Boom’s been going super and I can’t thank them in the team for keeping me on.”
“I’ve been working with James for three years. It’s a great crowd out there and this is my second Wagga Cup so it makes it even better. I won this two years ago with Isaih. I grew up with the sport, Pop trains and Dad drives.”
In paying further tribute to James Rattray she added “I can’t thank him enough with a great calibre of horses in work and I’m able to drive them out there as well. It’s really good.”
