It probably wasn’t the fairytale finish that ace harness racing trainer Jack Trainor had been hoping for at Club Menangle tonight.
Yet with a massive team of New Zealand owners and supporters on track, the win by Braeview Kelly (Bettor’s Delight) in tonight’s $200,000 Prydes Easifeed Queen Elizabeth Mile was still one for Trainor to savour.
While he trained and drove the sentimental favourite Stylish Memphis, who could only finish fifth, her stablemate Braeview Kelly was simply awesome, scoring in 1 slashing 1:49.5 mile rate.
Perfectly handled by gun reinsman Cameron Hart, Braeview Kelly beat Amore Vita (David Moran) and the fast-finishing Fairy Tinkabell by three metres.
BRAEVIEW KELLY REPLAY
“She is just an unbelievable mare,” said Hart as he returned with the Group 1 winner.
“If a run like that doesn’t get her a start in a Miracle Mile, then there’s not much more she can do,
“If we hadn’t been able to get in front of our main dangers, it might have been a lot different.
“She’s so versatile and really she makes my job a lot easier.”
Hart always had the drive on Braeview Kelly with Trainor sticking with Stylish Memphis.
“Jack always tells me he has a way with the ladies . . . maybe this proves it,” grinned Hart.
“There’s a big team of owners here and there’s bound to be some big celebrations here tonight.”
Trainor was also full of praise for both mares.
“I was a little bit worried when Cam and I were out there doing a bit of work,” said Trainor.
“Mark Jones always had a big opinion of Braeview Kelly in New Zealand and every run she seemed to get better and better.
“We tipped her out after the Queen Of The Pacific and she has come back bigger and better.
“I think she deserves a shot at the Miracle Mile.
“They said I’d better run some time if I hoped for a Miracle Mile invitation.
“She couldn’t do much more than that.
“The pace was a bit hotter than I expected and Stylish Memphis wasn’t quite there tonight.
“She’ll go away and be a mum now but she’s a mare that gave me a start and I’ll love her forever.
“Ladies night does seem to work wonders for me.”
