Ladies In Red has proved she is the best harness racing filly in Australasia, by winning tonight’s $200,000 (Group One) Villawood Properties Breeders Crown 3yo fillies Final at Tabcorp Park Melton for trainer Emma Stewart.
It was a spectacular field of fillies and lived up to the hype surrounding it. The pace was on from the start and never relented with Kiwi filly Bettor Twist serving it up to the leader Beach Music for most of the race.Ā Ladies In Red meanwhile had a cosy run on the outer and got moving at the right time for driver David Moran. She charged into the race on the home turn and cruised clear for a comfortable win in a sizzling 1:53.1 mile rate.
Moran was full of praise for the daughter of Mach Three after the race.
“She is an amazing filly and it’s a very big privilege to be part of it all,” he said.
“She is an absolute star,” Trainer Clayton Tonkin said after the race.
“The times were just off the chart,” he said.
“She got beat a couple of times and people started doubting her, but I think she is very special and when you see her win these big races it means a lot.”
“I think she is the best filly we have ever trained. Not many fillies can do what she has done,”he said.
Emma Stewart trained the quinella when Joanna ran home well for second and Bettor Twist was gallant in defeat fighting back for a meritorious third.
