Classy Brillantissime four-year-old mare Hopeful Beauty lowered the Maryborough track record by 2.1 seconds when she won the Matchmaker Mile in 1:55.3 on the final day of the Redwood Carnival at Maryborough.
Starting from the pole, the French-bred mare enjoyed the box seat trail before finishing strongly along the passing lane to win by four metres.
She clocked quarters in 28.1, 30.3, 28.2 and 28.7 in her historic mile.
It was her sixth success from 15 starts. Watch the replay below:
On the same card the brilliant Love You three-year-old filly Queen Elida NZ extended her winning sequence to five when she came from last to win the Gold Bracelet in 1:57.7. She tramped her last 800 in 56.9 seconds racing three and four deep.
The winner of seven of her 11 starts this season for $106,110, Queen Elida is unquestionably the cream of the crop.
Love You, the leading Australian sire of three-year-old trotters and second on the two-year-old list, left winners in four States and New Zealand in the last week of October.
Other winners sired the champion French stallion were the two-year-olds Taimate Sass NZ (Melton) and Kyvalley Picasso NZ (Kilmore) and the three-year-olds Illawong Moonbeam (Menangle), Lovelorn (Globe Derby Park), Luvaflair (Pinjarra) and Love Rose (Methven, NZ).
