Brodie chasing Launceston winner before state duties

Junior Driver Brodie Davis is preparing for a busy week.

Brodie Davis

The 18-year-old will drive at Friday night’s harness racing program in Launceston before flying to Queensland on Saturday ahead of representing the state at the Australasian Young Drivers Championship that commences on Tuesday, with the 10-race series being held throughout the week at Albion Park and Redcliffe. The final heat is on Inter Dominion Grand Final night, 19 July.

Davis’ selection to represent the state comes on the back of being the leading junior driver in Tasmania last season, which included wins in the Easter Cup and the Evicus, both at Group 3 level.

“It’s a thrill to represent my state, and it will be good to go away, and hopefully have a little holiday. I’ll head up on Saturday and attend the second round of Inter Dominion heats, and then join the other drivers on Sunday when they arrive,” said Davis, who is a graduate of Tasracing’s Mini Trot program.

Davis is no stranger to representing his state on Inter Dominion Grand Final night, having previously competed in the Pony Trot Inter Dominion in the past.

“I have driven the pony (Chamfers Star) on Inter Dominion Grand Final night, but it will be a bit different going out to drive a horse.

Chamfers Star has also made the trip up to contest this year’s Mini Trot Inter Dominion, with Brodie’s sister Tamsyn (14) to drive him in this year’s series.

“I took him twice to Melton for the (Pony Trot) Inter Dominion, and Tamsyn took him to Sydney last year,” explained Brodie.

Before Brodie gets to Queensland, he has five drives on the eight-race card in Launceston on Friday night, rating Horrie Otara and Barbary Tales as some of his better winning chances from his book.

“Horrie Otarta (race two), if there is a bit of pace on and we can slot in and he can get over the top of them.

“Barbary Tales has drawn one (in race seven), she has come back good, she has had one run back and then this one on Friday, and then all going well she’ll go to the Beautide 3YO Prelude next week, and if she can get it her own way in front she will take some catching,” said the driver.

The Launceston card commences at 17:53.
