Fresh off a winning double last Sunday, driver Brodie “Hollywood” Davis heads to Friday night’s Launceston harness racing meeting in equal tenth spot on the state drivers’ premiership.
Brodie drove Jo An Jo and Serengeti Sunrise to victory last week, with both horses recording overdue wins.
“Jo An Jo has been working well enough to do that in a race. She has just needed the right run to get out and work into it as she doesn’t have a quick sprint in her, and Serengeti Sunrise brought his right manners,” said Brodie, with both horses prepared by his father, Steven.
On Friday, Brodie drives in four of the six races, and he rated Centurian Miss (Huntsville) and Nil Desperandum (Live Or Die) “on par” as his best chances.
Centurian Miss, a four-year-old mare, broke her maiden in Launceston five starts ago and will be having her first start since late March in the second race of the night.
“She went good in front. That was probably her best run that prep, and then she went a bit wayward with a few little niggles with her. She has been working well enough to be competitive if she can get the right run-through, and hopefully, she can do everything right and be there at the finish.
“She had a couple of weeks off and has been working up nicely,” said the driver.
The mare has drawn barrier two on the second row in the 2200m event.
Brodie returns to the sulky with Nil Desperandum in the third race of the night.
The eight-year-old gelding has been out of the winners list for some time but has been placed in two of his last three starts.
“The last time that I drove him, we took all the shortcuts and got home really good, and he should get a similar run from the pole on Friday.
“I’m not sure why he he galloped last start, and I’m not sure if he can hold up, but hopefully, he won’t be too far back on the pegs,” the driver said.
Friday’s six-race card commences at 17:47, and Keayang Fitzy will start one of the shortest favourites of the night.
