The King Island Racing Club’s decision to abandon their racing season, has resulted with some trainers from both codes sending racing to stock to other areas of the nation to compete in races, and that is the situation for this years King Island Pacing Cup winner Cambro Flash, who will line up in a heat of the North West Plate (2180m) in Burnie on Friday night.

Cambro Flash, a six-year-old gelded son of Ifihadyourluck, was also bred on King Island and has gone on to win four of his eight harness racing starts, with his record also including two minor placings.

The pacer has recently joined the Clayton Miller stable, with his daughter Bronte taking the drive on Friday. She was in the sulky for the gelding’s recent trial at Carrick Park on 8 December when second to Puntarno Stride.

“He hasn’t raced in nearly a year, and we were happy with his trial on Monday night in blustery conditions,” said Bronte.

“With what we have done with him so far, Dad believes he is a nice horse and has an opinion of him which is rare because he doesn’t usually give them raps, so I’m happy to take his advice.”

The Miller’s will combine with another former King Island pacer in the second heat of the North West Plate (2180m) with Arma Rolling Stone, who will start from the pole.

Arma Rolling Stone had raced Cambro Flash four times on King Island and had defeated him only once.

“Arma is super consistent. If he steps, he is a tough customer, and that’s how he races best. He stepped fair at the trials Monday night. He stepped away ok on the island, but that was a while ago,” said the driver.

The Pet Rock gelding has had 22 starts this season on mainland Tasmania for six wins.

The Final of the North West Plate will be held at the Burnie Harness Racing Club’s Boxing Day race meeting.
