Top filly Beach Diamond (Somebeachsomewhere) through virtue of a daring drive by Cameron Hart turned the tables on Soho Americano to win the Group 2 $100,000 APG Vicbred Super Series Final for three year old harness racing fillies at Melton on Saturday evening.

Due to her favourable front row draw Soho Americano was sent out a solid favourite with Beach Diamond second favourite. As expected Soho Americano found the lead from the New South Wales visitor Peace Out eventually securing a trail. But just as Luke McCarthy was settling Soho Americano in front Cameron Hart set Beach Diamond alight with a devastating sprint that caught everyone napping.
Once in the lead Hart then steadied the field down getting away with the first two final quarters of 31.9 and 30.7 seconds. It was obvious that the race would be a sprint home and that Soho Americano would be the only danger. McCarthy went for the inside run but Beach Diamond was able to run a cracking last quarter of 26.1 seconds to comfortably hold off Soho Americano.
There was a lot to like with Peace Out’s game effort in holding on for third.
BEACH DIAMOND NOV 22 REPLAY
Hart was fulsome in his praise of Beach Diamond.
The speed was quite sedate on the first corner and I just thought it wouldn’t hurt to have a crack.
I was pretty confident I could sit outside them and make a race of it. Once we were able to find the front it definitely helped. It was more a turn of foot when I asked her to quicken up. She probably quickened a little better. Full credit to the horse she was great tonight. I’m super grateful
I’m very privileged to come down and drive these fillies. She very rarely lets me down and she always tries her best.
Beach Diamond was narrowly beaten by Soho Americano in the Victoria Oaks Final and there isn’t much between these quality fillies. They are sure to continue their rivalry in mares races when they reach four years and older.
