Captain Crunch colt the jewel in Taylor’s crown

A three-quarter brother to the former NSW 2YO harness racing Filly of the Year and five-time Group 1 winner Jewel Melody (Captaintreacherous) will spearhead Gosford breeder Michael Taylor’s draft at the Australian Pacing Gold sale at Magic Millions, Gold Coast on Sunday, January 28. 

The bay colt, Lot 64 in the catalogue, is one of the second crop of the exciting, young Captaintreacherous horse Captain Crunch 1:47.4 ($1.7million). 

“He’s definitely the pick of my quartet on both pedigree and type. He’s an outstanding colt,” Michael said. 

Besides Jewel Melody, the winner of $487,128 and still racing, the colt’s dam Our Sweet Melody (by Art Major) also produced the $104,000 Albion Park Gold victor Hes Sweet and the juvenile winners Indy Jewel and Dream Melody from four foals of racing age. 

The second colt is Lot 55, by Rock N Roll Heaven from the 1:57 Mach Three mare Masey Mach, a granddaughter of the Australian 2YO of the Year Self Denial and a member of the same line as Vincent, Kept For Pleasure, Egodan and co. 

“He’s a very nicely put together colt who hopefully will go on and become a solid free-for-all performer. The Rock N Roll Heaven’s seem to get better with age,” Michael stated.   

The first of the two fillies from  Taylor’s Trotters Australia consignment – both by the world’s richest pacing stallion McWicked ($5million) – is Lot 10, the first foal of a half-sister to the dual Breeders Crown heat winner Canada Bay ($124,256) and a member of the prolific ‘Bonus’ tribe. 

“She’s a cracker. She has a real strong burliness about her with a bit of bling on her face. She’s robust, bold looking and very correct,” Michael said. 

The other filly is Lot 74, a lightly framed, athletic looking filly who is a half-sister to the promising Victorian pacer Rocknroll Tallara (7 wins), Crossfirehall (11 wins) and the Southern Cross Final placegetter Girls In Charge. 

Her grand-dam is a half-sister to the former top flight Victorian juvenile Flaming Roadstar and from the same maternal family as horses the calibre of Copy That, Christopher Vance, Luxury Liner and Surprise Package.
