Hot favourite Captain Ravishing (Captaintreacherous) gave his harness racing backers some anxious moments before he scraped home to win the Graham Goffin Free For All at Melton last night.

Now a five year old Captain Ravishing has always had the class category associated with some outstanding performances as a youngster but he has had a number of issues affecting his race career. Trainer Freddy Taiba has been patient in getting him back. Driver David Miles was full of praise for the entire.

“He’s quick. He went a bit quicker. I’d been a bit happy outside Jason (JillibyJackSparrow) and outsprint Chris (Can’tfindabetterman) on my back. He wanted to get rocking and rolling tonight. I hope that’ll get him a run for the Victoria Cup and you know that he’s great. The public love him or they hate him. You know he’s funny but he’s a serious horse. He’s something that can transcend the sport and it’d be great to take on Leap to Fame that’s for sure. If he keeps racing like that he going to be competitive in all of the Grand circuit races.”

Miles has now driven Captain Ravishing in his two appearances this preparation and is obviously looking forward to the forthcoming races coming up.

In his win Captain Ravishing who can show blistering speed was eased back to one out and two back. Along the back straight he started to unwind with a big run three wide to sweep to the lead with a third quarter of 27.9.

He had a good break at the top of the home straight but Cantfindabetterman who had followed Captain Ravishing continued to plug away but the post was too close and he missed out by a head.

The overall mile rate was 1.52.4 which may explain why Captain Ravishing was shortening stride at the finish. It was a welcome return to form by Cantfindabetterman who had last won at Albion Park in June and he can only improve on that performance.
