Brilliant speedster Captains Knock (Captaintreacherous) made a clean sweep of the Breeders series when he blizted his harness racing rivals in the $50,000 Group 3 New South Wales Breeders Challenge Final for four year old entires and geldings at Menangle Park.
Having won both the three year old and two year old series in his career and from his ideal draw he was sent out a hot favourite.
Driver Brad Hewitt was determined to hold the lead at all costs and by running his first quarter in 27.1 seconds Captains Knock was able to hold off the opposition.
Second favourite Oliver Dan who was an impressive semi final winner last week from his wide draw had no option but to race up outside Captains Knock. Hewitt let the brakes go along the back straight and he left his rivals flat footed.
Oliver Dan was able to take a sit behind Captains Knock but on straightening Captains Knock found another gear and he stormed away to 16 metres from Oliver Dan with El Camino finishing on fairly well for third.
A clearly happy Hewitt declared: Everything was going good for him. I had Oliver Dan outside me as the field
dropped off I had look behind me and thatās why I put the foot down to make Oliver Dan chase me. Heās been a super little horse with his manners and will to
win. Heās an absolute gentleman.ā.
Captains Knock will now go for a week in the paddock and Hewitt is looking for a crack at the Inter Dominion.
CAPTAINS KNOCK REPLAY
In running a blistering 1.48.4 for the trip, Captains Knock broke his previous fastest winning time of 1.49.7.
The entire has been a great money spinner to his large group of owners the Triple Play Syndicate.
One of the owners Josh Stapleton spoke for the group when he said āWe couldnāt be prouder with him. And real credit to Brad Hewitt. Weāre enjoying the ride.ā
And the owners may yet have opportunities to celebrate further success with the forthcoming Inter Dominion series.
