Connections of brilliant New Zealand filly Captains Mistress (Captaintreacherous) would have felt aggrieved when they realised that she had been overlooked for the final field of the Rising Sun. This would have been doubly emphasised after she recorded an effortless all the way win in the Racing and Sports Rising Consolation at Albion Park on Saturday evening.

The New Zealand bred filly had turned heads with her previous two unbeaten performances in Australia most notably when she was three wide yet simply powered home to win the Redcliffe Oaks over a week ago.
Now trained by Grant Dixon the filly continues to be driven by New Zealand reinsman Nathan Williamson who was associated with her previous racing career in the Shaky Isles.
CAPTAINS MISTRESS JULY 5 REPLAY
Even Dixon who had a number of runners in the Rising Sun was surprised that she did not obtain a start in the big race.
Drawn the pole in the Consolation Captains Mistress showed dazzling early speed to hold out Lux Aeterna from the gate who then obtained a trail when Attachment went around the outside of the field to race one out.
Rylee Rayne Bow who is arguably one Queensland’s best mares had a perfect trail behind the leader.
Williamson dictated his own terms of the race and at the business end of the event she recorded last quarters of 27.4 and 26.4 seconds to draw away from a game Attachment and Rylee Rayne Bow in third. New South Wales visitor Glitter Aint Gold was rattling home after being near last to finish a close fourth.
Interestingly Captains Mistress’s mile rate was only a tick slower than the Rising Sun but she recorded a faster last quarter. There’s little doubt she would have made her presence felt in the big event but that is something we’ll never know.
Now raced by Mick Boots, Captains Mistress will now likely be headed for the Group 1 $150,000 Queensland Oaks on their star studded night of racing on July 19.
