Catch The Fire, a 1:46.8, $1.5 million winning son of Captaintreacherous who is standing at Pete and Chantal McMullen’s Somerset Farms near Brisbane, was the dominant force in the opening round of the Ohio Sires Stakes for two-year-olds at Northfield Park on Sunday (July 13).

The Catch The Fire filly She’safirewoman led for the last three-quarters before scoring by 4-1/2 lengths in 1:54.6 in the first $65,000 division. From a mare by McArdle, the filly has won two of her three starts to date.
The Catch The Fire colts Spanky McGee, Sparks N Fire and Fires Champ all finished second in their respective $50,000 divisions.
Catch The Fire’s first crop are racing as three-year-olds and from 50 foals he has left 44 starters with 24 in 2:00, 12 in 1:55 and one in 1:50. They have earned $1.1 million.
Of 77 two-year-olds, 52 have raced and 18 have won in 2:00 and five in 1:55.
In a stellar career Catch The Fire won 18 races including the $375,000 Adios Stake, the $278,000 US Pacing Championship twice, the $325,000 Dan Patch Invitational, the $250,000 Kentucky Sires Stakes 2YO Championship and an elimination of the Little Brown Jug (third in Final).
Catch The Fire’s first Australian crop are weanlings.
