The result of the Listed $25,970 QBred Breeders Classic for two-year-old colts and geldings, run at Albion Park on Saturday night (May 21), put the exclamation mark on a big week for former harness racing champion Kiwi pacer, now Queensland-based sire Changeover.
The Burwood Stud flagship figured as the sire of the end-to-end winner, Mullum Axel, and the runner-up Regazzo Di Tilly. Both were bred by Queensland identity Chris Garrard, who owns the winner.
MULLUM AXEL REPLAY
Mullum Axel, who was having only his fourth start, rated 1:57.9 for 1660 metres.
Three days earlier, Changeover sired a winning quinella at Redcliffe in the three-year-old filly Eyedunno, Raani (1:58.2) and Regazzo Di Tilly.
Another Albion Park winner sired by Changeover was the evergreen gelding Little Change, who won in a 1:57.7 – his 21st lifetime success.
Smooth Overarm, a NZ bred son of Changeover, sent his earnings over the $100,000 mark when he scored at Dubbo.
Changeover was also represented by winners in NZ and North America this week. Shard’s Fury won in a career-best 1:59.2 at Addington, Sudden Change NZ scored twice at Scioto Downs, Ohio in 1:53.2 and 1:54, while The Charging Moa NZ emerged successful at Plainridge Park, Massachusetts in 1:54.2.
