Smart Changeover gelding Justanextragrand notched his second feature win and extended his winning sequence to five when he took out the Garrard’s Horse and Hound SA St Leger at Globe Derby Park on Saturday night (October 30).
The three-year-old sat parked throughout the 2230 metre trip, but dug deep in the dying stages to prevail in a head bobbing finish.
The mile rate was 2:00 flat with the final 800 in a slick 56.9 seconds.
A fortnight earlier Justanextragrand won the SA Sires Produce Stakes. He has won eight of his 15 starts this season.
The Changeover two-year-old filly Nelly Bigtime defeated older, more experienced rivals to grab her second success in a career-best 1:59.3 at Newcastle.
Other recent Changeover winners were former En Zedder Honour Before Glory, who made it two from two on Australian soil at Horsham, and the maiden winners Yankee Boot Flat (Bendigo) and Belle’s Boy (Methven, NZ).
Changeover is standing stud at Burwood Stud, located on Queensland’s rich Darling Downs.
