Cranbourne to host Group 1 double header

The Decron Pacing Cup was last run at Group 1 level in 2016 and returns to the sportā€™s top tier after its prizemoney was increased from $75,000 to $100,000, while the trotters cup will be run at Group 1 level for the first time after its prize money was doubled from $25,000 to $50,000.

Decron Cranbourne Pacing Cup night will be run primarily at metropolitan stakemoney levels, making the night one of Victoriaā€™s richest harness racing meetings run outside of Tabcorp Park Melton.

Cranbourne Harness Racing Club president David Scott said that he and his committee were excited to bring elite harness racing to Cranbourne.

ā€œElevating both cups to Group 1 status is a tremendous milestone for the club,ā€ Scott said.

ā€œThe prestige associated with Group 1 racing as well as the exceptional prize money on offer in both cups and across the entire card will ensure an exciting night of unforgettable racing.

ā€œWeā€™re looking forward to welcoming a big crowd to the track as we showcase our club and community to the nation.ā€

Run over 2555m, the Decron Cranbourne Pacing Cup has been won by some of the countryā€™s greatest pacers including Tailamade Lombo, Im Themightyquinn and Mr Feelgood, and, with the 2022 edition to be run the week following the Inter Dominion Final, it is well positioned to attract some of the best standardbreds in the country.
