Trainer Jason Grimson has made a habit of traveling back to his hometown of Young to pick up the harness racing spoils in feature races.
And on Friday night he will be hoping to do the same at Youngās Carnival Of Cups meeting when his former New Zealand pacer Cya Art (Art Major) takes on a class field in the $60,000 HGH Motor Group Cherry City Cup.
Due to his commitments with the Inter Dominion series in Brisbane, Grimson wonāt be at Young and will rely on his best mate, leading metropolitan horseman Jack Trainor to make the trip from their Menangle Park base in an endeavour to add another feature win to Grimsonās impressive resume.
Cya Art is having his first Australian start and last raced in the Junior Free-For-All on New Zealand Pacing Cup day when he ran a bold second behind smart pacer Don’t Stop Dreaming.
That race was run over 2600m, a perfect lead-in for Fridayās Cup to be run over the gruelling 2887m trip, three and a half laps of the Young Paceway, which is certain to be a great spectacle.
The four-year-old gelded son of Art Major has drawn perfectly to gain an ideal trip in gate three for and Trainor says it would be most satisfying should he be able to capture Youngās feature, given that it is where it all started for Grimson whose family still reside there.
āI know Grimmo loves having his horses race back in Young, particularly when these races roll around,ā said Trainor.
āSo, it would be super if this fellow was able to get the job done for us.
āI liked his run at Addington.
āNo doubt he was beaten by a better horse on the day, but he stuck to his guns bravely and they streeted the rest of the field.
āBut it is a really good field and he will have to take that next step up if he is to win.
āDrawing gate three is a positive though, and I am sure Jasonās team will have Cya Art spot-on and ready to fire.ā
This Carnival of Cups meeting features entertainment by three of Australiaās best-known music artists, The Living End, Sarah McLeod and Things Of Stone And Wood and those wanting to attend the free event should go online to www.carnivalofcups.com.au to secure tickets.
