Emerging NSW three-year-old Dangerous Threats (For A Reason) earned himself a crack at the Group 1 Victoria Derby after his stunning harness racing win in the $30,600 HRNSW 3YO NSW Bred Final at Menangle.
Dangerous Threats speared across to find the pegs shortly after the start and following a 29.4 second quarter ābreatherā he reeled off a 54.5 last 800 metres demolishing his rivals by 33 metres in a mile rate of 1:50.4.
The son of For A Reason is trained by KerryAnn Morris and was driven by her husband Robert who admitted he drove the winner right to the line.
āI wanted to see where he was at and he has a habit of switching off so I kept his mind on the job and he kept finding the line going 1:50,ā Morris said.
The lightly raced colt is now unbeaten in three runs this time in following a lengthy injury enforced lay off.
āHe hurt himself as a two-year-old last year and it may have been a blessing in disguise as he did a lot of work on the treadmill and it has really built him up,ā he said.
āThere is still room for improvement as his heart rate was still high after the race tonight.ā
DANGEROUS THREATS REPLAY
Morris said the winner will be aimed at the NSW Breeders Challenge before a potential trip south of the border.
āWith a couple of other NSW three- years- olds going to the paddock at the back end of the year we might aim him at a race like the Victoria Derby,ā he said.
