There is a distinct Dennis Denuto ‘vibe’ floating around the harness racing stable of Matthew Craven and Amy Day.
The Ecklin South-duo will be hoping that Dance Away (A Rocknroll Dance) can soak up some of that energy and emotion brought to the stable by Palamino Phenomenon, White Lion ahead of Sunday night’s Matthews Petroleum Hamilton Pacing Cup.
The listed cream coloured horse scored in the second race on the card at Mount Gambier on Tuesday.
“He (White Lion) blew up social media,” Amy Day said.
“He has done his job and at least people are talking about harness racing on a positive note because of his colour. It is great publicity. “
Dance Away, Day’s hope been in good order ahead of Sunday’s $30,000 event.
“He is going and feeling well,” she said.
The 34-year-old broke through for her maiden country cup training win with the gelding in last year’s Ararat Cup.
“He is as good now as he was for the Ararat Cup , it is a good field and a bit of a stronger then what he was up against at Ararat,” she said.
The winner of 10 races from 55 starts has been handy for Day and owner Bruce Treuer who gave the horsewoman opportunities early in her career.
“He has been really honest, and he has won a few races for the owner,” she said. “It was good to win a Cup for that owner (Treuer), he has supported me my whole career – since I started driving.
“Ever since I started driving when I was 18 – I could drive his horses. I had my first Group 1 starter as a trainer for him and he has been a marvellous owner for me.
Dance Away has drawn two with the possibility of pole with the emergency (the Jamie Kirk-trained ,Rakajed) drawing one for the 2660m trip.
“He has got a good draw, but he will need that up against this field,” she said.
The Alexandra House Sports Club Hamilton Trotters Cup is the headline squaregaiting feature on the card with Inter Dominion runner-up, Keayang Chucky starting off a 50m handicap for Jason and Marg Lee.
